No one can expect that senior citizens above 62 will remain active all throughout their life. The reverse mortgage program has got several benefits as it helps senior house owners with a monthly loan amount. They don’t need to pay back this loan unless they pass away, or the want to relocate from the house, and this loan amount can be used for any purpose in life.

Although it has several advantages, the reverse financial loan has several drawbacks too. The first one is that the senior citizens lack freedom when it comes to a reverse mortgage. They will be obliged to stay in the house, and will be unable to move away from it or relocate. They are allowed to move or relocate only when the borrower or the family members are ready to pay back the full loan amount. This rule gives no consideration or exceptions for moving – even when moving is related to severe illness. The senior citizen falling ill for several years will finally end up with a big debt amount which will be impossible to repay even for the family members.

Repayment policies

Serious illness makes senior citizens incapable of the repayment of loans. Thus the loan will accumulate, and if the illness prevails for 10 or more years it becomes very difficult to pay back the resulting debt amount. After the death of the borrower, the family members are responsible for the repayment of huge reverse mortgage loan amount within a period of one year after the senior citizen’s death. In such cases, for repayment of loans the legal heirs are forced to sell the house. The situation demands nothing but sale of the property. Thus the legal heirs have to take up great responsibilities due to reverse mortgage after the death of a senior citizen.
