Can I end my reverse mortgage early? Read here for ways that you could end your reverse mortgage!
While a reverse mortgage may be an excellent option for some people, others may find that they want to end their reverse mortgage. Luckily, there are several ways that you could end your reverse mortgage early.
Sell Your home
The first way that you could end your reverse mortgage early is pay selling your home. If you sell your home a reverse mortgage lender will require you to pay off the reverse mortgage. This is because the reverse mortgage loan is only available to those who use their primary residence to secure the reverse mortgage. By selling your home you should be able to pay off the existing balance and end your reverse mortgage early.
Refinance Your Reverse Mortgage
Another way that you could end your reverse mortgage early is by refinancing your reverse mortgage. If you have enough equity in your home you may be able to refinance your mortgage into either a traditional mortgage or into a home equity line of credit. The proceeds from the refinance will be required to pay off the reverse mortgage. While you will then be required to make monthly mortgage payments, you will be able to pay down the loan and not accrue as much interest.
Move Out
The third way that you could end your reverse mortgage is by moving out of your home that is securing your reverse mortgage. If you move in with a relative, into a nursing facility, or into a new home, the reverse mortgage lender will end the reverse mortgage and will require you to pay off the loan. Unfortunately, if you do not have the liquidity to pay for this out of pocket, you may be required to sell the home.
